Pets

It was not the most promising beginning of my work week.  There was some computer malfunction somewhere and things didn't go smoothly.  My concern is that tonight we will be make up for all the things that didn't get done today because of the problem.  There are some happy things to share from today:

  • Aesop, the dog, greeted me when I got home today.  He doesn't always do this and it was nice.

  • Winston, the orange tabby, let me pet him at the same time as I pet the dog.

  • Nanni, the brown tabby, has decided that sleeping in the catnip laced scratcher is her new favorite place to be.

  • Keziah, not a pet, has a sewing project that she is excited about and that excitement is contagious.

Finished!  After the story there was an essay that I think was longer than the story.  I finished that essay today and it was pretty good.

Swamp

It was a chill, rainy, and foggy day.  I had hoped for an adventure and then remembered that I had errands to run.  The adventure will have to wait.  I did get out for a walk with Aesop, the dog.  We went to the swamp not too far from the house.  It was lovely.  Shrouded in fog and scattered with thin layers of ice, it is my happy thing for today.

Now I must prepare for the work week ahead.

Hanukkah

As the first person awake this morning I got to take Aesop, the dog, out for a little walk.  I took him once around the property on the mostly frozen ground.  I considered bringing the weedeater out and working on the trails but did not.  From what I have read when the ground is frozen is the best time to take down trees as it does less damage to the ground.  I'm not planning to take down trees at this point.  It is a good time to burn brush though, once there is snow on the ground.

Morning sun.

It was a good, contemplative walk for me.  Other happy things for today:

  • Both Gideon and myself are feeling much better.
  • I found Nanni, the brown tabby, on my bed asleep.  She looked as if she were a babe sucking her thumb.

  • In the evening we visited some friends for some latkes and to be there when the last candle on the menorah was lit for Hanukkah.  After we played a fun game of Munchkin.

Self Care Day

Gideon and I both woke up not feeling well.  Most likely he was having a reaction to getting his second Covid vaccine yesterday.  I think I was just exhausted.  Knowing it was better to leave him home, Keziah and Zed went to a holiday gathering without Gideon.  After taking it easy with Gideon and watching some Christmas movies on Netflix, I felt somewhat better.  Gideon had a rough day, he seems much better now though.  Later in the afternoon Gideon's other grandmother came by to watch him so I could take the dog, Aesop, for a much needed walk.  We stepped out just after sunset.

shining in the darkening sky.

Stepping out into the cold evening to walk Aesop was refreshing.  Since I had been sitting most of the day the dog and I took a good sized walk, about 2.8 miles.  Self care and caring for my grandson are my happy things for today.

Friday

Work is done for the week--unless I decide to pick up extra hours.  Other employees are doing many more hours than my 45 hours this week.  I'm undecided on the extra time, but I need rest.  I had a good four hour nap this afternoon before spending time with the family for dinner and TF for Minecraft Friday.  These are happy things for me.  Then there is Winston, the orange tabby.  Apparently he was cold today.  When he came downstairs and the gas fireplace was on he decided that was the place for him.

A few minutes later Aesop, the dog, whose bed was just to the other side of that box on the floor, carefully moved his bed a foot or two away from Winston.  No picture, but it was adorable and it is great to see them near each other without being loud or angry.  Progress is good.

Sleep

It is not yet four o'clock in the afternoon and I am ready to go to sleep.  That means that I could get over six hours of sleep before going to work again tonight.  According to Fitbit, the last four nights I have not exceeded five hours.  The potential for sleep is high and I am calling that my happy for today.  I also had a nice talk with TF today.  I just really need sleep.  I had to do laundry or would have been ready for sleep earlier... Hey!  I did laundry, another thing to be happy for.  Thanks for being here.

Dance

Because work is long and I need sleep, my blogs may become even shorter than usual on work days.  Both work days this week I have had enough sleep.  I need to keep it that way.  My happy for today has to do with work.  The managers tend to play music and each manager seems to have their own playlist.  None of them are all bad, most of them I like.  When work isn't overwhelmingly busy, I tend to 'dance' while I work.  I'm not a dancer, but I have fun singing to myself and dancing to the songs.  It reminds me to stretch and makes the day move that much faster.
