Little Things

Apparently yesterday took a lot out of me.  I didn't sleep well and didn't feel well at work so I came home early.  I slept well, but not long after I got home.  I'm still not feeling great, but definitely better than when I was at work.  What are my happy things for today?  Let's see:

  • --K shared a special memory about Mount Chocorua on yesterday's blog.  I love that!  It got me thinking about different games I played in the car with my kids when they were young.  Thank you!
  • I got a little bit of all the things I like to accomplish every day done.  Most of my 10,000 steps happened at work and I remembered to practice Duolingo and read and the other little things I like to do.  Although the word count is falling behind, I did write a few sentences for NaNoWriMo.
  • Another thing I am happy for is Netflix and comedy series.
  • Tea, Keziah made me a ginger lemon tea that was delightful.
  • And...
Keziah helped Gideon make this
yummy looking pumpkin pie.

Friendsgiving

Thanksgiving is most likely my favorite holiday.  The reasons have nothing to do with the history behind the day, that is actually bittersweet at best.  It is because people gather to share a meal and give thanks.  I am thankful for everything I write about as my happy things every day.  Here are today's:

  • This year my SCA household decided to get together for Thanksgiving.  We all brought foods to share and gathered at the house of a household member and visited.
  • We have some really good cooks in the household.
  • A few of us went out for a walk before dinner.  There was a small fallen windmill.
I mostly forgot to take pictures.
The windmill is on the ground.

Silly Smiles

It wasn't a good day at work.  I stumbled with boxes and missed them coming down the line and made a mess.  Eventually they had me swap places with the person who was down the line from me (they were trying to help me while I was having problems).  They fixed it all up and I had less items to deal with.  I am very grateful for all the help I got today at work.  I'm happy I only work a three day week!  Other things I am happy for:

  • After lunch I started to drift off to sleep.  I tried not to, but the call was strong.  Gideon came and sat next to me on the couch and snuggled up.  He let me know it was okay if I fell asleep.  He doesn't know it, but he broke the spell and I couldn't get to sleep after that.  We snuggled for a bit and then I took pictures of us.  I love my grandson!
Smiles.

Tongue curling.

Silliness.

  • From our spot on the couch in the living room, we had a clear view of Winston asleep in the dining room.
He's so cute there!
  • The SD card for the wildlife camera has finally made it back to the camera.  It accidentally went through the wash but seems to be working now.  Phew!
  • While taking the walk to replace the SD card, there were bees, so I had to take their picture.
New England aster and a bee.

Currently reading:  The backpacking book I have been reading has taken a hike and I finished this month's part of the homesteading book.  Instead I dusted off Mount Washington A Guide and Short History by Peter E. Randall.  It was published in 1983, so there won't be any recent history.  So far I have only read the pre-stuff part of the book.

Happy July!

It had been my intention to work tomorrow and get some extra time in.  Yesterday and today I was given the opportunity to leave early and I took it.  Saturday Keziah and I have our first in-person SCA event in over a year because of the pandemic.  Since extra work is an option, I decided to be awake for the event and not tired from working the day before.  Tomorrow is payday and it appears the money is in the bank.  Yay!  Other things I am happy for today:

  • Special thanks to Reader --K who suggested spreading the crushed pepper to help discourage the woodchucks/groundhogs.  I don't know if it has worked yet, but I feel good having taken this action.
  • To test the pepper, I planted two more of the zinnia plants.  They are getting very root bound so need to be planted somewhere.  If they survive the night, I might plant a few more tomorrow.
And so the ground is sprinkled with red pepper confetti.
  • It has only been since last weekend, but it feels much longer, since I sat down with the family for dinner.  Zed cooked up some salmon and it came out perfectly!  Every once in a while it is okay not to sleep, right?

Things to Burn

It was another busy people day.  Somehow I was able to ride out the social anxiety of being with people better today.  Perhaps only because I am physically exhausted, although I did run and hide a little, mostly I stuck it out.  Other things I am happy for today:

  • I mowed.  Not the lawn, but some areas that last year I just mowed paths, I mowed a big section.  One way to help reduce the amount of ticks is to keep grass from getting too high-at least that is what I read somewhere.
  • There is a section of land between the garden and a line of staghorn sumac that I have been trying to clear.  It is done.
This last section had that pile of brush
as well as the multiple things growing up.

The brush is out, many of the things trying
to grow are cut, and it is raked.
Now it will just be upkeep.
  • Today was a bardic competition and between all the other things we were doing I was only able to catch a little bit.  What I saw was impressive and I hope to watch it later.  Two people I know from the state competed.
  • Some of the people that came by today brought their truck and a chainsaw.  The fallen tree that was over part of the trail is mostly cut smaller and some of it removed.  Maybe next week more will get moved.  A dead tree was also cut down.
Dead tree.

Dead tree down.

  • The dead tree made for good firewood.  We sat around the fire, some marshmallows were toasted, things almost felt normal.  So very thankful for all the help we got today.
