Autumn Siding

In order to put new clapboard siding onto the house to replace the rotted pieces, we rented a nail gun.  That nail gun had to be returned by 2:30 this afternoon so we had a limited opportunity to get the new siding attached.  This meant that Aesop, the dog, and I had an early morning walk so work on the house could start early.  While on the property out back I saw two deer run through.  I'm sure we must have spooked them out of somewhere.  Aesop didn't see them.  He did pick up on their scent and kept pulling me to go through the brush.

It was beautiful out there and I am glad I got to see the deer.

Other happy things for today:

  • We finished putting on the new siding!  Zed helped first thing and then had to go upstairs to work.  He kept coming out to help whenever he could find a few minutes.  Keziah and I did most of the hanging of the siding and finished in plenty of time to return the equipment.  Between the three of us wood filler and caulking was also applied where needed.
The hardest part.

We made it fit!

It is far from perfect and still needs paint,
but it can rain without causing more damage now.
  • Fall temperatures finally seem to be here.  I have been wearing layers all day.
  • Keziah also went out this morning to get some stuff that included things for the pets.
Aesop has a workman costume that will
get much more use on nighttime walks and
woods walks during hunting season.

He probably will never wear the hat again.

Gideon had to try it on though!

The cats got this mansion!
Places to hide, a ball, comfy rest spots and
places to scratch.

October Sun

Sitting in the shade on this warm October day it is almost hard to remember that it is autumn. According to the app on my phone it is 75 degrees out. I have puttered in the yard some and have decided that since Aesop has a bone to chew on, I can sit.

Aesop and his bone.

It was an eleven and a half hour work day for me and my feet hurt. The holidays are coming and my hours will be extended so I am trying to ease myself into working a little late. I might even volunteer for an additional shift someday. Today, I happily rested my feet, sitting in the shade. Other happy things for today:

  • I have enjoyed watching how the pinecones on the tree by the garden have been developing. They were small and green and now are brown and larger.

  • A few days ago I noticed a rose bloom on one of the front bushes. I went to photograph it and found a bud, not quite open, with the fading bloom below.

  • Before I headed to slumberland, Gideon had to show me the Minecraft YouTube channel and the potential new mobs that people will be able to vote for.  Gideon was very excited to share that with me.

Happy Autumn!

It had been my intention to work outside today.  Mother Nature decided it was their turn to work outside and is busy watering the earth.  It looks like there will be off and on showers until Friday at which time it will just rain.  Since it is the first day of Autumn, I think the rain somehow seems fitting.  Other things I am happy for today:

  • One of the people at work complimented on my ability to do the job.  It is always good to hear stuff like that.
  • Other than work, not much happened today so the pets in my life are the other happy things.
Aesop with his collar.

Winston napping.

Nanni moving around so the
camera wouldn't focus on her.

  • One more thing... Imagine looking into a dark room with a child reading a book under the covers with a flashlight.  There is a glow from the light that is mottled from the blanket but everything else is dark.  That is how I am describing the moon that I saw heading to work this morning.
